Toymaker Mattel has introduced 15 new Ken dolls, giving him new skin tones, body shapes and hair styles.

You can even choose to have a Ken doll with a man bun. Yes, we’re being deadly serious.

Part of Mattel’s Barbie and Ken Fashionistas crew line, the expansion follows on from the introduction of three new Barbie body types – tall, curvy and petite – at the end of last year. The company wants to make its dolls more diverse and appeal to today’s kids – and they say some of the Ken dolls will be available for sale immediately.

“By continuing to expand our product line, we are redefining what a Barbie or Ken doll looks like to this generation,” said Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and general manager, Barbie.

“Evolving Ken was a natural evolution for the brand and allows girls to further personalise the role they want him to play in Barbie's world.”

Many Twitter users seem to be feeling Mattel having more relatable dolls…

But it seems some people can’t take the addition of man bun-Ken too seriously.

As well as hipster man-bun Ken, the various Ken dolls display other fashion tastes too, such as casual business or athletic. There are seven skin tones, eight hair colours and nine hairstyles to choose from. Some of the dolls even have freckles now too.

The brand also announced it’s introducing 25 additional Barbie dolls. So, we can expect children to be playing with some very diverse couples in the future…which we’re totally here for.
