Ivanka Trump will be joining the White House in an official capacity as an employee, she announced on Wednesday.

She will act as a senior adviser to her father, finally adding an official title to match the office she was given in the West Wing.

According to a statement from the first daughter, the move was designed to quiet criticism that her unofficial advisory position to her father protected her from having to make the financial disclosures federal employees, like her husband Jared Kushner, have to make.

“I have heard the concerns some have with my advising the president in my personal capacity while voluntarily complying with all ethics rules, and I will instead serve as an unpaid employee in the White House Office, subject to all of the same rules as other federal employees,” Ivanka said in a statement. She also acknowledged the unusual nature of her appointment, saying: “Throughout this process I have been working closely and in good faith with the White House counsel and my personal counsel to address the unprecedented nature of my role.”In terms of her financial assets, she has handed daily management of her business to the company president, and set up a trust to oversee those decisions. However, she will still be able to veto any business transactions she disagrees with.

She has also stepped away from the larger Trump organisation, replacing her share of the profits with a fixed payment instead.

The president’s eldest daughter has often accompanied Trump in his business dealings, including briefly taking a role on The Apprentice as a guest judge. She also owns a fashion line selling jewellery, bags and clothing.

In an unofficial capacity, Ivanka’s activities have included sitting in on meetings with Japanese premier Shinzo Abe and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

We can expect to see a lot more of her in the administration now.
