LIAM Neeson may be a leading Hollywood actor, but the Co Antrim-born star has failed to secure his latest role - as Santa Claus.

Dressed up as Father Christmas, the Ballymena man auditioned for the part in a hilarious sketch on US talk show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

But Neeson brought a bit too much of his famous role in the blockbuster movie, Taken, to his audition for a mall Santa.

In his trademark serious style, he said: "I see you... when you are sleeping. I know... when you're awake".

Asked by a producer to be a "little more jolly", Neeson begins with a smile but soon becomes more intimidating than before.

"I think it's right," he adds.

"Do you understand what Santa's saying here? He's making a list - naughty, nice. He's detailed. He's single-minded. He's an eye in the sky bringing swift judgement.

"And that reindeer that ran over grandma? I will look for him, I will find him, and I will kill him."

The actor also revealed on the show that there are no plans to make another Taken movie.

"There's only so many times your daughter can get taken," he joked.

"If we do another one, it'll be, 'Please, can you take my daughter?'"
