Strap yourself in for the 2023 Formula 1 season

It's a mug's game to try and predict how the Formula 1 season will take shape based on pre-season testing… but let's try anyway.

The first race is this Sunday in Bahrain - lights out at 3pm - and in testing at the same circuit last week, reigning champions Red Bull looked like they will still be the team to beat. Ferrari look fast, but have an all-new car that will inevitably serve up a bunch of teething problems.

Aston Martin, now with Fernando Alonso aboard, were the pre-season surprise package, and could be top three contenders. Mercedes appear to be still off the pace, so Lewis Hamilton may have some work to do if 2023 is to be the year he bags his eighth title. Strap yourself in…
