Hot Hyundai given power boost
HYUNDAI has given its excellent high performance i30 N a power boost as part of a refresh.
An eight-speed automatic gearbox can also now be specified on the i30 N hatchback and Fastback.
The power increase is a gentle 5bhp, lifting the 2.0-litre turbo's output to 276bhp, while torque is up a more relevant 39lb ft to 289lb ft.
Together, it can only help make the i30 N even more thrilling to drive. The 0-62mph time has been reduced by 0.2 seconds to 5.9 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155mph.
The auto' box is a double-clutch set-up and comes complete with driving modes that include the amusingly-named 'N Grin Shift' as well as 'N Power Shift' and 'N Track Sense Shift'.
Cosmetic changes include new headlamps and front grille; hatch versions get updated rear lamps.
In a sign of the attention to detail lavished on the i30 N, the 19-inch alloy wheels are lighter by 14.4kg. A new design of sports seats shaves another 2kg.
Prices start at £33,745 for the manual hatchback, rising to £35,695 for the automatic. The Fastback starts at £34,495 for the manual and £36,445 for the automatic.
