WE liked the look of Kia's swish new electric EV6 when it was revealed a few weeks ago, writes William Scholes.

Since then, Kia has filled in some of the details and there's now even more reason to look forward to it.

The standard car comes with either rear-wheel-drive and 316 miles of range from a 77.4kWh battery, or with four-wheel-drive and a smaller 58kWh battery for a shorter, yet-to-be-disclosed range.

That version will do the 0-62mph sprint in under 6.0 seconds, which will suit most people just fine.

But if you want something even quicker, Kia is offering an EV6 GT model. It does 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 161mph - Tesla Model 3 Performance-rivalling punch, in other words.

The GT musters 577bhp from its dual-motor set-up and a mighty 546lb ft of torque.

The entry model costs from £40,895, a GT-Line trim from £43,895 and the rocket-ship GT from £58,295.

You can't buy one yet, though you can "pre-reserve" a slot to place an order in May before the car goes on general sale.
