VOLKSWAGEN'S steady roll-out of the new Golf range continues, with the popular GTD model now available.
Priced from £32,790, the GTD still uses a 2.0-litre turbo diesel though this time it's a little more powerful, with 197bhp, up from 181bhp.
It also has more torque, with 295lb ft compared to the previous generation's 280lb ft.
The 0-62mph time is 7.1 seconds and the top speed is 152mph.
A seven-speed double-clutch automatic gearbox is standard.
The GTD can cover up to 600 miles on a full tank, according to Volkswagen, and can achieve up to 54.3mpg on the combined cycle. CO2 emissions are quoted as 137g/km.
As ever, the GTD riffs off the cosmetic style of its GTI sibling.
Where the GTI has red trim highlights - and the GTE plug-in hybrid, blue - the subtle GTD has silver detailing.
As with the GTI and GTE, the GTD is very well equipped.
An illuminated front grille, new bumpers, honeycomb-design LED front fog lamps, LED matrix headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, three-zone climate control and sports seats trimmed in tartan cloth are part of a very appealing package.
