Ferrari Omologata: Beyond special

SOMEWHERE way above the stratosphere of even the most exotic supercars lies the rarefied atmosphere of the bespoke, one-off, factory-built commission.

Deep pockets alone won't gain you access. You need to be a true enthusiast, someone who has developed a long and presumably expensive relationship with the car-maker over many years.

If you fulfil those requirements, then you too can get yourself something like this stunning V12-engined Ferrari GT, which is called the Omologata.

It was commissioned "by a discerning European client" and is the tenth one-off Ferrari has built over one of its V12 platforms.

The project took just over two years, with the owner working closely with Ferrari's designers to achieve their vision.

The Omologata is based on the 812 Superfast, and retains only that car's windscreen and headlights. That approach helps keep the car road-legal.

The attention to detail involved in a car like this is stunning.

"The quest for the ultimate touch went as far as developing a new shade of red just for the livery, to match the fiery triple-layer Rosso Magma over darkened carbon-fibre finish," said Ferrari.

Inside are electric blue seats - "finished in a tasteful combination of leather and Jeans Aunde fabric with four-point racing harnesses" - which contrast with an otherwise black interior.

Metal parts on the dashboard and steering wheel are finished with the crackled paint effect associated with Ferrari's famed GT racers from the 1950s and 1960s, as well as the company's engine cam covers.
