Euro Ncap: Tougher safety test

EVERY two years, car safety organisation Euro Ncap toughens its test.

For this year, it has focused on raising standards in occupant protection, post-crash protection and driver assistance technology.

"The impact of these updates, as well some other minor changes, will be significant," said Euro Ncap.

"Therefore, consumers must be careful when directly comparing the latest results with ratings from previous years.

"What stays the same is that only vehicles that perform excellently in crash protection, post-crash and crash avoidance - and the ones that car buyers should look out for - will achieve the top five-star rating."

Euro Ncap put crash-testing on hold during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown but plans to have its first batch of results conducted according to the new standards "after the summer".
