WE have already featured the new McLaren 720S on these pages but for those of us who can't quite stretch to the £208,600 asking price, Lego has come up with the answer.

Joining the Speed Champions series of toys, the Lego McLaren 720S is built from bricks in the sports car manufacturer's trademark Azores orange and comes with a Lego minifigure car designer.

"The Lego interpretation of the McLaren 720S reflects the most exciting part of the design process, when a two-dimensional sketch is transformed into a physical, three-dimensional model," said McLaren Automotive chief designer Rob Melville.

"Building a model like this gives the next generation of McLaren enthusiasts a taste of how exhilarating that moment is for designers."

The first examples of the real McLaren 720S reach customers next month. It ramps up the performance of its predecessor, the 650S, to bonkers levels: the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine pumps out 710bhp, top speed is rated at 212mph and the 0-124mph time is a mere 7.8 seconds...

The Lego version, on the other hand, accelerates as fast as you can push it and will cost around £12.99 when it goes on sale in June.
