TITANIC Belfast and the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin have been shortlisted for the title of World's Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards.

They are among just eight global attractions nominated for the award, and the only destinations in Britain and Ireland to make the list.

The other nominees are Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi; Intramuros in the Philippines; the Las Vegas Strip, Nevada; Machu Picchu in Peru; Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro; and Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Clinching the title rests on the number of online votes cast for each of the attractions.

Titanic Belfast is urging people to vote via www.titanicbelfast.com/vote to help it win. Voting closes on Monday October 24.

Judith Owens, deputy chief executive and director of operations of Titanic Belfast, said: "Thanks to huge public support, we are up there with the world's best, but just one more push will make us officially number one."

Titanic Belfast first opened at the end of March 2012.

The six-storey £100m visitor centre is close to the slipway where the Titanic was launched more than a century ago.

Its opening coincided with the 100th anniversary of the ship's sinking, in which 1,502 people lost their lives.

The visitor centre was voted Europe's leading visitor attraction at the World Travel Awards in 2016, beating the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Acropolis of Athens and Rome's Colosseum.
