A NEW campaign launched by the Cancer Fund for Children is hoping to raise awareness of how nursery and primary school pupils can enjoy the sun safely.

It has been launched alongside Sun Awareness Week and will run throughout the summer term.

It aims to educate children on the importance of staying safe in the sun, all with a healthy dose of fun and fashion.

Schools and nurseries are being invited to hold a `hats and shades day' as they welcome the warmer weather, giving pupils the chance to wear their favourite hats and shades, in return for making a donation to support Cancer Fund for Children.

Rebecca Oates, schools fundraiser with the charity, said: "We are encouraging nurseries and schools across Northern Ireland to get sun savvy and sign up to take part in our hats and shades event.

"Every school that registers to take part will receive a free fundraising pack with activity sheets, interactive video and the option of a school visit from one of our fundraisers," she said.

"We can’t wait to see schools get behind this campaign and rock their favourite summer accessories".
