CHEF Jenny Bristow is to headline this year’s Portavogie Seafood Festival, which takes place in the fishing town this Saturday August 13 from noon - 6.00pm.
Organised by Ards and North Down Borough Council, the festival will be the second in a series of events taking place around the Ards Peninsula to celebrate the north’s Year of Food and Drink.
Situated around the harbour, the event will celebrate Portavogie’s fishing heritage with a programme of cookery demonstrations and fish-based activities. The cookery demonstrations will be provided by local and celebrity chefs headlined by Jenny Bristow and will include fish tasting along with competitions like fish identification and a prawn tailing competition. If you fancy taking some food away, there will be a fish market and artisan food market trading all day.
With performances from the Fish Wives Choir, net-mending demonstrations, storytelling, a marine touch tank, displays from the RNLI, Ulster Wildlife and lots more, the festival offers entertainment and information on fishing, food and marine heritage for all ages.
As part of The Peninsula Food Showcase, special events will also be taking place in: Donaghadee on September 10, Ballywalter on October 9 and 10 and Greyabbey on October 29.
