Weekend Q&A: Q Radio's Victoria Quinn

Victoria Quinn (25) presents the Late Show on Q Radio, which runs from 10pm to 1am on weeknights

::How do you unwind at the weekend?

This makes me sound really old, but I like nothing better than having a weekend with no plans. My schedule's off-left anyway as the show doesn't finish until 1am and I don't get to bed until 2am or 3am, so I love to sleep in until 11am or twelve. Then I might meet my boyfriend, Matthew, who's a fireman, and go for brunch. Or I have a late breakfast at home, usually smashed avocado on sourdough. Actually, I don't like avocados by themselves but I started this when I was trying to be healthy so I add a good squeeze of lemon juice, rock salt and some chilli flakes to make it palatable. I'm not one for loads of nights out but love a drive to Strangford or might go with the girls for a lunch out.

::What do you recall most about weekends growing up?

My granda owned a farm with cattle, chickens, a bit of everything, and the whole family ended up living near him - it's a Quinn enclave. Even now, if I poke my head out of the window, I can probably see my cousins, including the closest, Kori and Lauren, who's just handed over her Miss Northern Ireland crown. I was a bit of a tomboy and remember we'd make boys' dens and girls' dens. We'd often make a camp fire and cook things, although my parents would only really allow us to fry sausages. It was like Enid Blyton.

::Are you Friday or Saturday night?

Definitely Friday night because by the time Saturday comes, you're aware Sunday is coming and the weekend's going to end.

::Have you a must-listen weekend radio show or podcast?

Sinead Hegarty has a brilliant podcast, Sinead Says, that's about wellness and meditation. I am big into that, partly because my dad Liam died suddenly in January 2018 after a heart attack. This has helped me with my grief but to be honest, I'm still trying to get into meditation.

::Do you have a must-watch weekend TV programme or box set?

I'm more into YouTube videos about real life as I am nosy and find other people - often girls my age - fascinating. Meggan Grubb, who's Welsh, has a brilliant YouTube platform with millions of followers.

::Is Sunday still special?

We weren't brought up to be religious. My parents let us make up our own minds about things, including about God. So it isn't more special or relaxing than any other day.

::How do you feel on Sunday night about Monday morning?

I used to have that 'haven't done my maths homework' feeling but not since I joined Q Radio as I don't start work early. I love my job, especially the 'Love Songs Around 11' slot with music chosen by listeners. Once a couple phoned in from hospital when the wife had just given birth.
