Stargazing at Queen's

THE Northern Ireland Science Festival is running this week and there's lots of outdoor events to choose from to dazzle and amaze all ages.

The Orion Nebula is part of a stellar cast of outer space things to do at Queen’s University Belfast on Monday (February 20) from 6.30pm to 8:30pm and Wednesday (February 22) from 6.30pm to10pm.

Just 1,300 light years from Earth, new stars are being born in clouds of gas and dust so to have a look at all the action, telescopes operated by members of Queen’s Astrophysics Research Centre and the Irish Astronomical

Association will be there allowing visitors the chance to view these fascinating spectacles.

This is a weather dependent event. Look for announcements that will be posted by 3pm on web and Facebook pages. These are free drop-in events that will suit all ages.

Stargazing at Armagh Planetarium

WRAP-up warm for this event taking place on Tuesday (21 February) from 7pm to 9pm featuring the dark skies of February that will hopefully show the wonders of the cosmos in the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium.

Visitors are invited to travel to the stars through a digital theatre show and find out about space from the astronomers. Those taking part will also have an opportunity to peek through the Planetarium's public telescope during this late opening session – weather permitting.

Admission: £2.50 per child £3 per adult £10 per family (2 adults and 3 Children). Pre-book for digital theatre show.

Nature Park

BOTANIC Gardens in Belfast is the venue for a number of nature-inspired science events including The Magic of Plants in Close-up on Thursday February 23 at 11am, The Battle of Predators and Beasts on Friday February 24 at 2pm and Parklife Saturday Club next week at 10am.
