"I'm a big Richard Curtis fan and I think Love Actually is a really wonderful Christmas film. I particularly love the scenes from their play. I'm trying to think of a Christmas film I don't like! I love Miracle On 34th Street because it's great when children are on the cusp of not believing in Father Christmas – it keeps them believing for another year. I like sitting down and watching all the old films, like The Sound Of Music, when you're doing your wrapping."

:: Kate Garraway, presenter

"I absolutely love Miracle On 34th Street, but It's A Wonderful Life is my total favourite. I don't think you can beat it and I cry every time."

:: John Torode, celebrity chef

"I don't think I have a favourite Christmas film. I'd be really happy if Charlie And The Chocolate Factory – the original one with Gene Wilder from 1971 [actually called Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory] – was on, or Crocodile Dundee, because I'm a proud Aussie."

:: Phillip Schofield, presenter

"This is my eldest daughter's thing, but we watch The Polar Express every Christmas Eve. If we've been away, we've taken the DVD with us! It's the tradition of it. It gets a bit dark when they get to the North Pole, but the train stuff is all amazing. So it's the four of us on the sofa and it's great."

:: Noel Fielding, actor and comedian

"It's A Wonderful Life. It's amazing; I love James Stewart [who plays lead character George]. Me and Julian [Barratt, his comedy partner] were talking about doing a remake of that for a Christmas special. He kills himself and I turn up as an angel, but I've just come back from a fancy dress party and he doesn't know that. I show him what life would be like when he's gone – and it would be better!"

:: Russell Grant, celebrity astrologist and entertainer

"My favourite Christmas film must be White Christmas, because of the music, the songs of Irving Berlin, the dance, the Hollywood glitz. It's fabulous. It's got all those wonderful stars; Danny Kaye, Bing Crosby, Vera-Ellen, Rosemary Clooney. When I watch it, I feel like a kid again and my grandmothers are back with me. It's escapism and it takes me back to the 50s."
