TWO stars of Derry Girls have released a video about coping in lockdown - in their inimitable comedy style.

Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Louisa Harland play their characters Erin Quinn and Orla McCool in the short recording, which was filmed from an "underground bunker" in their airing cupboard.

The video, purportedly using an old 'camcorder', contains humour that will be familiar to viewers of the hit Channel 4 sitcom, with the two girls squabbling and lots of references to the nineties, from X- Files to French fancies.

With a nod to the lockdown Britain and Ireland is experiencing, Erin and Orla bring viewers back in time in what they say is intended as a tool for future generations coping with self-isolation.

"The year is 1996 and we're speaking from Derry, Northern Ireland," says Erin.

"These are uncertain times, peace negotiations have broken down and mass rioting engulfs our streets.

"The city is literally on fire.

"We've been ordered to remain in our homes by the authorities."

But it's not long before the Derry humour is back and Orla reveals they have been told to stay indoors by their "mammies".

Erin says that "worried for our own safety, Orla and I have constructed this bunker... it's not going to be easy", while their parents are trying to "remain strong, but they're pertrified".

Orla quips though that "they're downstairs watching Family Fortunes".

The two actors were able to make the video without breaking social distancing measures because they live in the same household.
