THE Rademon Estate Distillery in Co Down is to develop a new storage facility for its spirits.

David and Fiona Boyd-Armstrong’s Crossgar distillery is best known for its Shortcross gin, whiskey and poitín.

The company, which launched more than a decade ago on the 500-acre Rademon Estate, recently landed a new US distribution deal, that will see its whiskey and poitín sold across five states.

In tandem with its growth, an application was launched by Ms Boyd’s brother Brendan Boyd for a new storage facility at the Sawmills Business Park on Ballynahinch Road, close to the Crossgar distillery.

Planning permission for the venture was secured last month. Industry monitor Construction Information Services (CIS) Ireland estimates the project could represent an investment of around £750,000.
