LEARNING AWARDS

Open College Network (OCN NI) has announced details of its fifth Learning Endeavour Awards which aim to recognise and celebrate the achievements of individuals and their training providers, by highlighting the power of learning to transform lives for the better.

The event will take place at the prestigious Titanic Suite in Titanic Belfast on Monday June 26. Nomination forms are now available at https://ocnni.org.uk/learner-awards and remain open until Friday April 7.

The awards bring together learners from a range of education and training providers, including representatives from the community and voluntary sector, further education, private training as well as schools.

Categories include Further Education Learner of the Year, Schools Learner of the Year, Third Sector Learner of the Year. Advancing Learning Through Innovation , Health & Well-being Learner of the Year, Inspiring Tutor/Teacher of the Year. Provider of the Year, and the Hilary Sloan MBE Learning Endeavour Award.

CYBER-SECURITY WEBINAR

Telecoms and IT provider b4b Group and Cyber Essentials experts CyberSmart are coming together to host a cyber-security webinar Don’t Get Scammed, Get Secured.

The free event, taking place on Thursday April 20 (noon-1pm), will feature industry experts talking about existing and potential cyber threats that could derail businesses with real world examples of how other companies have virtually eliminated online risks following Cyber Essentials certification.

MEDTECH CONFERENCE

Hosted by the Health Innovation and Research Alliance NI (HIRANI), the Medical Innovation and Technology Summit (MITS) one-day conference takes place in Belfast on Wednesday April 19.

With partners including Innovate UK, AWS, Big Motive, Diaceutics, KPMG, Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University, the summit will focus on two strands; digital ecosystems to integrate diagnostics and therapeutics; and community people-centred design to accelerate innovation and adoption of health technology.

Over 40 speakers from global and indigenous industry, academia and health along with 300 delegates will share case-studies and take part in multi-disciplinary panel sessions to explore contemporary issues and hurdles to commercialisation.

Leading innovators from Northern Ireland including Peter Keeling (Diaceutics), Damian Cranney (Big Motive) and Clare Guinness (Belfast Innovation District) will be world renowned thought leaders such as former global head of digital health and therapeutics at Merck, Caoimhe Valley Gilroy and, CEO of Closed-loop medicine and chairperson of HIRANI Hakim Yadi OBE.

HIRANI (www.hira-ni.com) is an alliance of universities, health organisations and other industry bodies, established to drive and support ambitious growth in the north’s life & health sciences sector. ONE YOUNG WORLD SUMMIT

The One Young World Summit, the world’s largest gathering of the next generation of global leaders, is coming to Belfast's SSE Arena later this year (October 2-5).

The summit brings together young leaders representing 190 countries and 250 organisations to confront the biggest challenges facing humanity and accelerate their social impact.

Over 2,000 delegates will come to Belfast for four life-changing days of knowledge-sharing and networking, where they will be counselled by some of the most influential political, business and humanitarian leaders in the world.

The summit provides an opportunity for businesses to partner with One Young World so their organisation’s outstanding young leaders can develop the skills to tackle the world’s greatest problems.

Delegates become ambassadors post-event, and are automatically eligible to attend future summits as a Returning Ambassador. They are also given lifetime membership of the One Young World Community.

OPEN FARM WEEKEND

More than 20 working farms from across Northern Ireland will be highlighting the quality, availability and cost effectiveness benefits of buying local during the 2023 Open Farm Weekend sponsored by Bank of Ireland.

Led by the Ulster Farmers’ Union, organisers are predicting up to 20,000 visitors will attend farms across Father’s Day Weekend, June 16-18, to enjoy a packed programme of free activities to showcase local food and farming at its best.

Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend will represent all sectors within the farming industry including dairy, beef, lamb, arable, poultry and vegetables, and as all counties have a local farm participating, the public, wherever they live will have the chance to learn more about a real working farm.
