ENERGY provider Power NI has become the first electricity supplier in Northern Ireland to launch a home charger product for electric vehicle (EV) drivers.

The utility firm is partnering with Refresh NI to provide installation services to customers and help make the switch to EV as convenient and affordable as possible.

Its specific product is the EO Mini Pro 2, the world’s smallest smart home charger, designed for the convenience of the everyday electric vehicle driver and which offers power p to 7.2kW.

According to industry review sites, the EO Mini Pro 2, which retails at around £600, offers greater connected control, fuse protection and solar charging integration “and is so compact that you might not even notice there’s a home charge point installed”.

Saving space and energy, the charger - which is permanently wall-mounted either indoors or outdoors - can turn itself off when another high-power unit such as an electric shower or convection oven is on, thus reducing energy usage.

Safe and efficient, customers can manage, monitor, and schedule charging sessions all through their smartphone and prevent others from using your charger.

Mark Wiggins, innovation manager at Power NI said: “I'm proud we are the first to introduce a charging product into the local market, now offering customers both an EV tariff and an EV charger.

“Our goal is to assist customers in their energy transition journey. Last year, we introduced our electric vehicle tariff with 1,500 customers signed up to date.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Refresh NI as our installation partner and are committed to playing our part in the race to net zero and helping to power a more sustainable future.”

A year ago Power NI was the first energy company in the north to launch a specific tariff for EV drivers who charge their cars at home.

Bill Cherry, managing director of Refresh NI said: “We are delighted to be Power NI’s appointed installation partner for its new home charging product.

“We are focussed on delivering a full range of energy efficient solutions that help customers reduce carbon emissions in their homes, and we see the installation of home vehicle chargers as a key component of this. We share Power NI's commitment to providing quality service and creating solutions to support all customers”

The new charger is available from this month, and customers can visit https://powerni.co.uk/electric-car-charger for more information and to arrange a free no obligation survey at their home.
