SOCIAL media site instaBelfast, the popular travel guide to the city, has advertised for what its owner Alan Wallace describes as "the dream summer job" - and had 200 applications within just hours!

The site, launched in 2018 and which has more than two million views a month and has a huge following on Instagram and TikTok, is seeking a food and drink taster.

And not only will the lucky winner will get to eat and drink his or her way around Belfast, but they'll also be paid £30 an hour for the privilege.

InstaBelfast, an independent team of creatives who make up the unofficial destination marketing organisation for the city, wants someone to become a professional eater, trying a range of well-known and hidden gems.

"Basically, we want someone to spend their summer earning money while eating out for free, enjoying the tastiest meals whilst promoting local businesses and being our food critic," says Alan.

"The ideal candidate will be a self-confessed food addict, have a good level of writing skills (required for blog writing), an ability to film basic footage, be confident working remotely for deadlines - and, of course, be partial to a bit of banter!"

He says duties will include eating out at various restaurants in Belfast and documenting venues through a combination of basic video and writing skills.

"This is a dream job, a once in a lifetime role which is short but unique.

"It will be a remote role, but you will be required to commute to the required venues in Belfast.

"So if you're over 18 and someone who loves to take pictures and videos of their food anyway, why not get paid to do it?"

Indeed since Alan advertised the role on instaBelfast, he's been bombarded with applications. Zoom interviews start later this week, and the new critic will start his or her eating in late August.
