A LISTED 18th century house in Co Antrim with planning approval for a 61-bedroom hotel, has gone on the market for £2.5 million.
The seven-bedroom ‘Old Glebe’ in the hamlet of Derrykeighan, between Ballymoney and Bushmills, dates back to 1780.
Set in 13 acres, the private house, which is also used for bed and breakfast accommodation, was the subject of a major planning application four years ago to transform it into a four-star hotel with wedding and conference facilities.
The proposal, which was approved by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council in November 2019, involves converting the interior of the Georgian house and building a new extension.
The plans also include developing up to 132 parking spaces on site.
Documents submitted in support of the application suggest the plans involved an investment of up to £20m.
The planning green light came just four months before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, which hit the north’s tourism sector.
Almost three years on, the property is now on the market with an asking price of at least £2.5m.
Owned by Nick Scott, the 13,000 sq ft house includes seven bedrooms, three reception rooms, a music room, study and library.
The property also boasts a courtyard with seven stables, storage facilities and a barn.
If the new owner intends proceeding with the hotel development, they will have until November 1 2024 to commence work.
