DELIVERY group Whistl has been awarded the contract to provide postal services to the north’s public sector.

The logistics company was previously awarded the government postal contract 2016, then worth up to £30 million.

The 2021 contract, worth just under £8m, will see Whistl continue to collect, sort and transport mail from the north’s government and public bodies to Royal Mail for doorstep delivery.

The company, which has operated here since 2010, is based out of its sorting depot at Hightown Industrial Estate in Newtownabbey.

Whistl states it is the only alternative national postal operator in Northern Ireland for clients including banks and utilities.

Chief executive Nick Wells said: “We are delighted that we have again won the contract on our ability to provide a cost-effective quality service that will benefit the Northern Ireland taxpayer through lower postal costs.”
