Wrightbus names Co Down GAA legend Neil Collins as new MD
BALLYMENA bus-maker Wrightbus has appointed Co Down GAA legend Neil Collins as its new managing director.
The double all-Ireland winning goalkeeper, who stood between the posts in Croke Park for the historic wins in 1991 and 1994, will now be charged with saving the fortunes of the Co Antrim manufacturer, now under the ownership of Jo Bamford.
The company, rescued by the JCB heir in late 2019, is now back up to 600 staff.
A seasoned engineer, Collins joins Wrightbus from Austrian mobile crushing firm Rubble Master, where he headed the firm’s Irish operations. The Co Down man previously held top posts at Dimplex.
“I’ve known about Wrightbus all my life so it’s a real honour to be coming into the company at an incredibly exciting phase in its development,” said Collins.
“I’m an engineer by trade and I cannot wait to get stuck in here in Ballymena. It’s a phenomenal facility and has bounced back impressively.
"We want the best people to work here and we want the local community to see there’s a bright future on their doorstep.”
