FORKLIFT giant Hyster-Yale is creating dozens of jobs in Co Armagh following a £5 million expansion of the Craigavon manufacturing facility.

The US group, which already employs hundreds of people at its 40-acre site in Carn, announced the new jobs as it officially unveiled the new 60,000 sq Sands Building.

The new facility has been named in honour of Harry Sands, who retired last year as senior VP and managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Asia (EMEA) after 40 years with the firm.

The opening also marked the 40th anniversary of the manufacturing facility in Craigavon, which opened in 1981.

The plant continues to manufacture thousands of forklifts each year for export throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Hyster-Yale said it is recruiting dozens more in Co Armagh in preparation for future manufacturing demands and new product lines.

“With our site expansion and talented team, we are excited to be laying the foundations for the next 40 years of success,” said Jim Downey, the group’s plant manager in Craigavon.
