POUNDLAND has opened a new store in Armagh city, creating 22 jobs.

The budget retailer said the new operation at the Spires retail park is part of its commitment to open 25-30 Poundland and Dealz stores in the UK and Ireland over the 12 months to September 2021.

Poundland currently has 33 stores open in Northern Ireland. New outlets in Dungannon and Ballymena were opened in November.

While Poundland is permitted to trade as an essential retailer, five stores were temporarily closed in early January for seven weeks due to a decline in footfall.

Four stores reopened in late February. The retailer’s store at The Quays in Newry remains closed.
