THE Housing Executive has announced £16 million of interim maintenance contracts in response to the impact from Covid-19.

The Housing Executive said it will guarantee jobs in the construction sector for Mid and East Antrim, South Antrim, North Down, South Down and Lisburn and Castlereagh.

The five contracts will run from September 1 for 12 months. The firms are Greenview Gas, Combined Facilities Management, CTS Projects Ltd, PK Murphy Construction and JMC Mechanical and Construction Ltd.

“Before the onset of Covid-19, we were preparing to arrange procurement for new, long-term response maintenance contracts,” said Colm McQuillan of the Housing Executive.

“However, as a consequence, due to current contracts expiring, we have implemented this interim arrangement.

“These interim contracts give us the flexibility to continue to review our position and provide continuity in this tenant orientated area.

“It will allow us to successfully tackle the backlog of maintenance requests that have arisen in the recent period.

“Since the onset of Covid-19, our Customer Service team handled around a quarter of a million calls from tenants and we have already begun the process of dealing with the significant backlog in repairs at our properties.

“We would like to thank our tenants for their continued patience and support and along with our new partners; we will endeavour to clear the backlog as quickly as possible.”
