BELFAST and Derry-based financial services firm FinTrU recorded its best ever month in April, its chief executive has said.

Speaking to The Irish News, Darragh McCarthy revealed that the company will hit 500 staff within days and remains on course to reach 600 by the end of 2020. He revealed that by next month, 75 new people will have joined since the pandemic arrived on the island.

He said no staff had been furloughed during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

FinTrU’s clients include a list of global investment banks. The Cork native said demand for the firm’s services has continued to grow through the crisis, with two significant new clients signed in recent weeks.

He revealed that FinTrU has also recently acquired a new US subsidiary, with a lease signed on a sales office, due to be opened in New York. Around £1m will also be invested this year in a new client outreach tool.

Mr McCarthy admitted the company’s experience was an exception to that of other firms in the current climate. He said FinTrU has benefited from the north’s broadband infrastructure, with operations continuing through homeworking, something global rivals had struggled with.

The chief executive said the pandemic had changed his view on homeworking and said plans were being made to replace desktop office computers with laptop cradles, to allow staff to eventually switch between home and office working.
