Mid Ulster tops north’s innovation table

THE Mid Ulster district has the highest percentage of innovative businesses, according to a new table.

Figures just released by HMRC, show 240 successful claims (3.8 per cent of all businesses) were made by companies in the local authority for R&D (research and development) tax relief in the 2017-18 financial year.

According to a list drawn up by funding specialists ABGI UK, it puts Mid Ulster top of the innovation table of the north’s 11 council areas, ahead of Belfast on 3.1 per cent

The latest updated HMRC figures show that Northern Ireland companies secured a total of 1,310 R&D tax relief claims in the 2017-18 period. A total of £75m in tax relief was claimed on the back of over £500m worth of innovation-focused investment.
