BANK of Ireland has launched a new service in Northern Ireland designed to help self-isolating customers - including older people and those in vulnerable situations - to access cash for groceries, medical supplies and other day-to-day expenses.

Customers are being allowed to nominate another person to make in-branch cash withdrawals on their behalf, after first having contacted 0800 783 8591 for verification.

It comes as the opening hours of all its branches in the north have temporarily changed to 10am-2pm Monday to Friday, forced by the significant fall in the number of customers. Within this, a prioritised service for over 65s and carers is being provided between 10am and 11am each day.

Bank of Ireland UK chief executive Ian McLaughlin said: “We are doing all we can to keep services running for customers.

“The ‘cocooning support’ will make it easier for a trusted friend or neighbour to help those in isolation with their daily essentials.

“Many of our customers find themselves particularly vulnerable at the moment and relying more than ever on the help and support of others, so this service gives them one less thing to worry about at this challenging time.”
