GERMAN supermarket chain Lidl has continued its strategy of upgrading its stores across the north.

Ballymoney and Limavady are the latest towns to see investment in new premises.

The retailer said the move was part of its efforts to futureproof its presence in the two towns.

Ten new jobs have been created in Limavady, which opened on February 27, while the new Ballymoney outlet, which opened on March 12, has created nine new jobs.

Limavady store manager, Niall Harrigan, said Lidl has maintained a presence in the Co Derry town since 2000.

“This investment by Lidl has been welcomed warmly by the community and we have had many excited customers eagerly enquiring about the new building over the past few months, so we are thrilled to finally be opening the doors to our new home.

“On behalf of the team I want to thank our loyal customers for their patience during the construction works. We are thrilled to be able to give our loyal customers in Limavady this amazing new shopping experience and look forward to continuing to serve the local community.”

Last year Lidl said it invested £13 million in its Northern Ireland supermarkets.

It currently has 39 stores around the north, with a number of new projects in the pipeline.

They include new shops at Holywood Exchange in east Belfast and at Newry’s Buttercrane Shopping Centre. There are also plans for new stores in Newtownards, Newcastle, Castlereagh and at High Street Mall in Portadown.
