SOUTH Derry commercial contractor Premier Electrics continued its recent growth trajectory, a new set of company accounts confirms.

The Bellaghy electrical firm has reported a 15.2 per cent rise in turnover to £49.4 million for the 12 months to March 31 2019.

Pre-tax profits shot up by 18.1 per cent to £5.7m over the same period.

Last year Premier Electrics opened a new Belfast base and launched a three-year training programme to develop the skills of its workforce in a move backed by Invest NI to the tune of £290,000.

The company also moved to increase its workforce, adding 12 staff to leave an average headcount of 73 during the reporting period.

The Derry contractor has said it employs as many staff indirectly.

Premier Electrics says it has delivered more than 1,500 projects over the last 25 years across the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Romania, the Netherlands, Austria and Belgium.

Its major retail contracts include Primark stores across Europe. Closer to home, the Derry company carried out the full electrical design and fit-out of River House on Belfast’s High Street.

The latest set of accounts reveal the company paid dividends of £2.8m during the year ending March 31 2019, an increase on the £3.6m paid at the end of March 2018.
