McAvoy awarded £5.5m school building contract in Peterborough

How the new facility at Peterborough will look

OFFSITE constructors the McAvoy Group in Dungannon has been awarded a £5.5 million contract for a new three-storey art, design and technology centre near Peterborough.

Built under phase two of the Department for Education's Priority School Building Programme, the new facility at The Deepings School will replace an existing 1970s teaching block due to be demolished.

The new facility, designed by Blue Sky Architects and which is being constructed at McAvoy's production centre in Lisburn to help reduce disruption to staff and children, will be handed over next summer.

Raymond Millar, pre-construction director at McAvoy Group, said: “The building is located at the heart of the school, so access for traditional construction would be more challenging. Using an offsite solution gives the school the primary benefit of reduced time on site.

“This is a live school environment so by reducing the build programme, we are minimising any disruption to the children's education.”

“We're using the latest advances in education design and offsite construction to create an inspiring environment for teaching and learning.”
