What was your first job?

My first job was as a lifeguard in my local leisure centre and beach in Galway at the age of 15. It was one of the most enjoyable jobs I’ve ever had even though it was challenging and a lot of responsibility to have at a young age.

What qualifications do you have?

I have a degree in business studies & marketing from Griffith College Dublin and a masters in strategic management & planning from Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School in Dublin.

What do you attribute your success to?

My competitive nature, often only competing with myself in terms of trying to move onwards and upwards. I have moved through a number of different industries in my career and my drive to learn more about each one has been a real contributor.

How would you describe yourself to someone who’d never met you?

Approachable, meticulous and sometimes stubborn!

Who do you look up to in business?

My boss from my first proper business role who is still my mentor to this day. As someone who took a leadership position in a multinational firm from a very young age (23) he has first hand experience in terms of what it takes to succeed in business.

How do you get the best out of people who work for you?

One of the most important things to do is give credit where it is due. My duty as a manager is to elevate the people that I work with at Glandore

If you could change one thing about doing business in Northern Ireland, what would it be?

At the moment, not a huge amount. I think it is great to see business owners getting on with things and moving forward despite the uncertainty that is looming around Brexit.

What website or app could you not do without?

Instagram, for business and personal use. It may not have a long time left as the go to social media app so best to get the most out of it while we can.

What was the last book you read?

Shoe Dog by Phil Knight, the creator of Nike.

What car do you drive?

An old BMW 5-Series. I could do with an upgrade!

Tell us something interesting about yourself?

I once swam 13 kilometres across Galway Bay from Co Clare to Salthill. Never again!

What’s your greatest passion outside work and family?

The sea! Getting out in the open water is so rejuvenating and clears your mind.
