FIRMUS energy is to invest £700,000 to extend its natural gas network further into Co Armagh.

The energy supplier is to extend its network into Camlough, in a move that will offer up to 546 homes and 77 local businesses the potential to connect to natural gas.

The project involves the laying of 8,392 metres of pipe and is expected to begin this month ahead of completion in December.

To date firmus has invested more than £5 million in the Armagh area to date and supplies 1,200 customers.

The latest investment plans form part of a wider £5.6m construction programme across Northern Ireland and work is already underway to extend the network further and connect new properties.

Michael Scott, managing director of firmus energy said they are keen to grow the company's reach in Co Armagh.

“This investment is not only good news for Camlough and the surrounding area but it also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to continue to invest in our network area," he said.

"Recently, we announced ambitious plans for further investment in the wider Armagh area with an estimated investment in Q1 and Q2 of this year estimated at £495,000 alone. This brings our total investment in the wider Armagh area to over £1m in 2019."

Firmus energy provides natural gas to more than 95,000 homes and businesses across Northern Ireland and is operational in over 35 cities and villages in the north.
