A HOLYWOOD-based physiotherapy practice which specialises in the treatment of sports injuries and back pain has expanded for the third time in nine years in response to demand for its specialist services.

North Down Physio has invested a further £200,000 in its facilities which includes the opening of a new studio space and the creation of four new jobs.

The studio will initially be used for a range of physiotherapy-led pilates and yoga classes which will be tailored for rehabilitation, stress management and well-being.

The business was established in 2009 by entrepreneurial physiotherapist Julia Webster, who was one of the first in Northern Ireland to introduce the Sarah Key treatment method, a pioneering pain relief technique where the physiotherapist uses his/her feet to mobilise joints and muscles in the back.

The firm's client base has grown year-on-year and the business now employs a 16-strong team working over three floors of treatment rooms in Holywood.

Julia, who trained in Northern Ireland and New Zealand, has worked as a physio for Team NI at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (2014) and Australia (2018), at the London Olympics in 2012 and supported numerous sporting events throughout Ireland.

She said: “More people than ever before are getting active and are taking their health seriously. This is really positive, but as enthusiasts push their bodies to do more, they can become prone to sports injuries.

“Our approach is holistic – we place great emphasis on patient education as well as treatment – with the aim of creating improved health and wellbeing for the long term.”

Julia added: “The classes will be small and focused, offering a more personal or bespoke approach, and are developed to cater for a wide range of needs, lifestyles and age-groups.”
