A CANADIAN homeware chain is set to open its first store in the north, creating 38 new jobs.

Homesense, sister brand to TK Maxx, is to open at Lisnagelvin Retail Park in Derry next month, taking a 14,663 sq ft unit.

It will be the retailer's 64th store in the UK, but its first in the north. The company also has Dublin and Cork outlets.

A spokesperson for Homesense confirmed the new store will open on Thursday, November 1.

“We are so excited to be opening our first Homesense store in Northern Ireland next month," they said.

"We look forward to welcoming home lovers and helping them discover a huge range of extraordinary to everyday homeware for less”.

Homesense is part of the TK Maxx family and operates an off-price concept, which offers unique and branded homeware, always up to 60 per cent less than the recommended retail price.

Founded in Canada in 2001, Homesense launched in the UK in 2008 and opened its first Irish outlets at Dublin and Cork last year.

Lisnagelvin Retail Park is home to a variety of stores, ranging from well known high street brands such as Tesco and Costa to independent retailers.
