Senior local banker takes up influential CBI role

ONE of the north’s most senior bankers, Stephen Matchett, has taken up an influential role as a member of the CBI’s UK Financial Services Council.

Danske Bank’s chief financial officer becomes the first representative from the four main local banks to ever take up a position on the council.

The Financial Services Council is made up of senior representatives from a diverse range of financial services organisations and insurers, including Lloyds Banking Group, Barclays, JP Morgan, Bank of America, Santander, Aviva, MasterCard Europe and RSA Insurance Group.

A formal standing committee of the CBI, it meets in London and is the body tasked with developing and providing the mandate for the business body’s financial services policy work.

Speaking about his new role, Mr Matchett said: “Whilst London is a global hub for financial services, the industry throughout the UK plays an equally important role in supporting all other sectors to develop, innovate and grow. I hope to be a strong voice for Northern Ireland, as Brexit and other challenges continue to impact the economic landscape."
