THE UK'S number one sports retailer Sports Direct has announced it is to open a new 'flagship' store in Downpatrick next month.

The retailer, which has over 400 stores in the UK, will occupy a 14,500 sq ft site on St Patricks Avenue and it will include edicated area for premium fashion retailer USC.

A spokesperson for Sports Direct said the new store will offer the "ultimate shopping experience".

"We offer something for everybody and we’re very proud to open a flagship store in a great location like Downpatrick.”

"As we continue to grow throughout the UK, our ethos remains the same. Our customers get the biggest brands in all types of sportswear, footwear and sports equipment as well as fashion brands at our famously low prices," they said.

The new USC outlet will have dedicated departments featuring key mens and womens lifestyle brands such as: G-Star, Replay, Levi’s, Calvin Klein, Jack and Jones, Pretty Green, Lacoste, Emporio Armani, Converse and Vans.

Established in 1982 by Mike Ashley, Sports Direct is the United Kingdom's largest sports-goods retailer. The company owns a large number of sporting brands and trades predominantly under the SportsDirect.com brand, while other retailers owned by the business include USC and Lillywhites.
