ONE of the north's biggest homebuilders has announced its second biggest year in the company's 29-year history.

Ballyclare-based Hagan Homes has announced that their annual home completions for the 2016/17 financial year were up by 8.4 per cent on the previous year, while turnover exceeded £17.5 million.

Overall it was the company's second biggest year in terms of completions since it was established in 1988, with 207 homes finished across 15 sites in Northern Ireland.

Managing director Jamesy Hagan noted it was firm's best year since 2006, just before the property crash.

"We are absolutely delighted with the results and believe it is a clear indication that what we are offering, in terms of specification of build, is exactly what our customers want. We aim to build affordable, quality, stylish homes and achieve this by appointing award-winning architects, interior designers and craftspeople."

"In addition, we have an extremely hard working team and their ability to adapt to an ever-changing market has been an integral part of our success," he said.

Looking to the future and Mr Hagan explained work has already started this year on four new sites in Dunmurry, Carrickfergus, Coleraine and Ballyclare, with further sites in Ballymena, Dundonald, Comber, Dromore and Belfast scheduled to begin in the coming months.

"There are however still a number of challenges to the local home building sector. These revolve around the delay caused by the planning system in Northern Ireland, which to date has not been improved by the transfer of powers to the local councils. One of the main issues is the length of time that statutory consultees such as Northern Ireland Environment Agency, Transport NI and Rivers Agency are taking to respond to planning applications," he added.

Hagan Homes is a family-run, award-winning company that has built almost 3,300 homes across Northern Ireland since it was established over 29 years ago.

The company was recently ranked 82nd in the Top 100 Northern Ireland family-owned and owner-managed businesses in 2017.
