AN international jewelry retailer, bespoke men’s clothier, world-renowned gin distiller and a social enterprise supporting people with learning difficulties were among the winners at this year's Belfast Business Awards.

And octogenarian Sir William Hastings, chairman of Hastings Hotel Group, was the recipient of a lifetime achievement award for the invaluable contribution he has made to tourism and hospitality not just in Belfast, but across Northern Ireland.

The awards ceremony in Titanic Belfast, sponsored by Bank of Ireland UK, was compered by Sarah Travers and Pete Snodden and welcomed more than 400 guests from the world of politics, business and showbiz.

Gordon McElroy, president of Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce, said: “The Belfast Business Awards have become synonymous with excellence and showcase the very best of business and commerce.

“We had a record number of entries this year and the independent panel of judges had an extremely tough job.

“Tonight we've seen representation from big-scale businesses from Ulster Bank through to the smaller independents such as Red Box Studios, and to Wall Group in the community sector. We have such a broad spectrum of winners, all of whom are doing outstanding things and contributing positively to the Northern Ireland economy.”

Gavin Kennedy, head of business banking in Northern Ireland for Bank of Ireland UK, said: “There has never been a more important time for businesses to showcase the amazing work they are doing on a day-to-day basis. These awards are a perfect platform for them to do that and receive the recognition and profile they deserve for helping move the economy forward and create employment.”
