DISKSHRED, the Belfast-based on-site IT shredding provider, is investing £430,000 in its shredding service, which includes the purchase of a new bespoke shredding vehicle to join its fleet and the cost of running the vehicle for the next three years.

Currently providing secure on-site hard drive and media shredding services in 13 countries throughout Europe, the company plans to double its business over the next 24 months.

And this should see it shred more than one million storage devices in the next five years (the company destroyed 325,000 devices in 2016).

The impending changes to data protection legislation (GDPR), which will see businesses being exposed to fines of up to 4 per cent of global revenues should personal data be leaked, is expected to be a major driver of demand.

The vehicle is designed to destroy all types of data storage including hard drives, back-up tapes, CDs and DVDs, CCTV & video tape, tablets and smart phones, as well as portable storage devices such as memory sticks and ID badges.

DiskShred helps organisations to eliminate reputation and data protection risk by ensuring the complete destruction of data. Shredding takes place at the customer’s premises to ensure a clear chain of custody.

Customers are invited to witness the process, verifying first-hand the complete data destruction. DiskShred has fitted its vehicles with CCTV cameras to create unique searchable video records, providing a visual backup to accompany paper certification of data destruction.

Jeremy Bryan, brand manager at, DiskShred, said: “Speed and security is everything in this business. Our new vehicle can shred 500 to 700 hard drives per hour. This is almost three times faster than most of our competitors can achieve, and results in both time and money savings for our customers. The new vehicle also offers the best security, with our unique built-in CCTV which is included in all of our vehicles.

“Some 82 per cent of DiskShred’s business comes from repeats and referrals, which is proof that our customers trust our secure on-site shredding service. To dispose of their redundant media as quickly and securely as we can, we need to have the best tools for the job. That’s why we’re making this investment now, and adding another purpose-built vehicle to our fleet.

“This new vehicle provides us with one of Europe’s largest fleets, and allows us to continue expanding our secure service throughout Europe. DiskShred responds to every customer request within four hours, and we provide ultra-short lead times from order to destruction. This investment will help us to continue to provide the best service to customers all around Europe.”
