BINGO hall boss Romeo Morelli (51) has become the latest company director handed a boardroom ban in a case brought by the Department for the Economy.

The department accepted a five-year undertaking from Morelli, of Cushendall Road in Ballycastle, in respect of his conduct as a director of Bingo Vision Limited, which operated a number of bingo halls from Castle Street in Ballymoney, Fairhill Street in Ballycastle and Wakehurst Industrial Estate outside Ballymena.

Bingo Vision went into liquidation in March 2014 owing its creditors £941,554.

Morelli admitted causing the company to retain £324,650 owed in various taxes including PAYE, Vat and national insurance.

This amount also included £129,273 in respect of Bingo Duty and Machine Gaming duty for the tax years 2006/07 to 2013/14.

Morelli also caused the company to fail to file an annual return for separate trading periods and failed to file annual accounts for the periods ended April 2012 and April 2013 and failure to file annual accounts for the 2004, 2005,2007 and 2009 tax years within the prescribed periods.

The Department has previously accepted a disqualification undertaking for six years from another director of Bingo Vision.
