An invitation to apply for Irish language streetnames in the Fermanagh and Omagh district

FERMANAGH and Omagh District Council will welcome applications from residents in the district who wish to erect a bilingual street or road sign.

This includes Irish, of course.

The process involves making an application in writing showing that you have gathered the signatures of one third of the residents on your street/road who are happy to sign up to a bilingual street/road sign.

On receipt of this the Council will contact all the residents who live on the street/road concerned.

If at least one third of replies received are in favour of a bilingual street/road sign, the Council will approve the request.

Applications requesting a bilingual street/road sign should be made to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Building Control, The Townhall, 2 Townhall Street, Enniskillen.  BT74 7BA or to Building Control, The Grange, Mountjoy Road, Omagh.  BT79 7BL

Irish classes via Zoom have also started in the area with beginner, improver, intermediate and advanced classes available.

The classes cost £25 (£20 concession).

::  Cumann Cultúrtha Mhic Reachtain are delighted to announce that a term of singing classes for teenagers will kick off this Thursday 1 October from 7.30pm on Zoom.

Maedhbh Nic Aindreasa will be taking the classes, available to girls and boys between the ages of 11 years - 18 years old.

You can register for the 10-week term of classes through Eventbrite.

:: www.myirishbooks.com has released its first publication - a ‘smart’ song book for children they have called Mo Chuid Amhráin Ghaeilge/My Irish Songs.

The book is a touch-responsive sound book with an internal speaker in which there are six beautiful images drawn by the renowned illustrator Tatyana Feeney and six traditional Irish songs sung by four young talented singers.

This combination brings the songs to life and will hopefully help foster a love in families for Irish language and culture, especially in the case of parents who have a love for Irish but may not feel confident enough to read it with their children.
