The Lyric Theatre launches a programme full of festive fun this Christmas

The Lyric Theatre Belfast is back with a packed programme this Christmas. From a family friendly production of Hansel and Gretel written by Derry Girls star Tara Lynne O’Neill to a festive but freaky comedy, brought to you by dynamic duo Grimes and McKee – Have Yourself a Scary Little Christmas.

Audiences will join Hansel, Gretal and their mischievous friend Monty the mouse as they tumble through their story book and into an enchanted forest of technicolour. Together with a host of woodland creatures they will take the audience on a magical journey to defeat the witch in her sweetie house.

Alternatively, add a little bit of mystery to the merriment this year with Have Yourself a Scary Little Christmas. Kings of Christmas Grimes and McKee are back with an ensemble cast to do a bit of haunting over the holidays.

It’s Christmas Eve at an eerie ancestral estate, and a TV psychic Nany Nugent is ready to livestream the mysteries lurking within. But what if the ghosts she hunts are too ghastly even for her? Intriguing secrets, elusive guests and a sprinkle of holiday spookiness will keep you glued to your seat.

“Christmas lends itself very well to ghost and haunted house stories because it’s a dark time of the year and it’s cold outside so that was really our starting point.

“We’ve taken a lot of cues from things such as Knives Out and Only Murders in the Building and that sort of style of people self-narrating so stylistically it’s a bit of a change for us,” said McKee.

Jimmy Fay, executive producer at the Lyric Theatre said: “It’s hard to believe we’re coming into the festive season already, and what treats we have for everyone this year.
