Gig of the week: Bennigans Block Party, Saturday August 27

Making Monsters are part of the first Bennigans Block Party tomorrow night in Derry

FORGET your Tennent's Vital and Belsonic, this weekend's best music festival is happening at a wee bar in Derry city courtesy of a line-up consisting of top drawer homegrown north western talent.

Atmospheric indie rockers Ports, metal mothers Making Monsters, punk rock kids Touts and eclectic solo tunesmith Wake America are but four highlights of the first ever Bennigans Block Party, which will also feature live performances from Luke Mac, The Docs, Reevah and Oisin O Scolai & The Virginia Slims on Saturday evening.

Long known as a live music-friendly spot, the Derry saloon hope to turn the event into an annual occurrence, so be sure to give it your support check if you're in the area and like to keep up with the best new local sounds.

As an added incentive to encourage punctual attendance and enhance enjoyment, Bennigans will also be firing up a celebratory barbecue to mark the occasion.

Smart types will arrive early and get well fed before the music kicks off at 7.30pm.

:: Tickets £10 via, doors open at 5pm.
