STOP your grinnin' and drop your linen, because the sexily named corporate entity that is 20th Century Fox Consumer Products has declared April 26 to be the first ever official Alien Day.

Aimed at marking the 30th anniversary of James Cameron's sci-fi action sequel Aliens, the special 'fan event' day occurs on the US-formatted date of 4/26 in tribute to LV-426, the fictitious world that plays an integral role in the xenomorph-infested, acid for blood-splattered action of the Alien franchise.

But what does Alien Day entail? Well, for starters, folks in the US can enjoy special back-to-back screenings of Ridley Scott's original sci-fi horror Alien and its aforementioned follow-up at Alamo Drafthouse theatres (Irish cinema chains please take note) – but, as you might expect given the particular arm of the Fox organisation behind the event, this red letter date is really all about one thing: merchandi$e.

Yes indeed, April 26 brings with it a veritable avalanche of limited edition Alien(s)-related comics, action figures, toys, trading cards and apparel guaranteed to drain the coffers of any hardcore bug hunter.

While the release of some items may be heralded by the sound of barrels being scraped – Aliens vs Predator edition Yahtzee, anyone? – the special Alien Day reissues of the Seiko timepieces and Reebok 'Alien Stomper' footwear sported by Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and Bishop (Lance Henriksen) in Aliens are actually pretty damn cool.

Now you only need to know one thing – where they are.
