TYRONE GAA footballer Cathal McCarron is to discuss his new book at an event in Belfast.

The ticketed event will be held at the Crescent Arts Centre on Wednesday November 9 at 7.30pm.

McCarron last week released his tell-all book about his gambling struggles – including how he appeared in gay pornography for cash to feed his addiction.

But the publication has caused controversy including over plans for the the Dromore footballer to be interviewed on RTÉ's Late Late Show.

His scheduled appearance was cancelled by RTÉ after the father of a 15-year-old girl McCarron met through Tinder voiced outrage.

McCarron (28) was questioned by gardaí over meeting the teenager last year through the mobile dating app.

He said in his book that he did not realise she was underage. The Director of Public Prosecutions later decided not to pursue the matter.

The girl's father said he felt like the Tyrone footballer was cashing in on meeting his daughter.

McCarron's scheduled Late Late appearance would also have come in direct conflict with an unofficial boycott of RTÉ by Tyrone GAA.

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte has not spoken to RTÉ since 2011 when an insensitive radio sketch was broadcast just months after the murder of his daughter Michaela on honeymoon in Mauritius.

Members of the Tyrone senior squad have also boycotted the state broadcaster.

But McCarron insisted his scheduled interview was "completely separate" from Tyrone GAA's boycott.

McCarron will discuss his new book with former UTV sports presenter Adrian Logan at the Crescent Arts Centre event.

Tickets are priced at £8 or £6 concession. Visit the Crescent Arts Centre website for more information.

Out of Control, written with Irish News contributor Christy O'Connor, was released last week.
