How do you unwind at the weekend?

Like many people, I got back outdoors during the pandemic and appreciated it. But spaces can become overwhelmed without parking or bins, and the project is about celebrating nature and conserving it. I have two boys – Fergus (7) and Hugh (5) – who are always up for adventure. We’re exploring new places and visited Belvoir Forest Park recently. The trees and trails are amazing considering it’s so close to the city.

What do you recall most about weekends growing up?

Saturday was always a busy day with matches and trips to see friends. My mum would make a big pot of soup for lunch to get us through the day. Sundays were family time – we’d visit family sometimes but often we’d go for walks.

Is there a must-listen weekend radio show or podcast?

I really enjoy listening to BBC Radio Ulster’s Your Place and Mine on Saturday morning. It gives you lots of ideas about what’s on and it’s great hearing people reveal why they find certain places special.

Is there a must-watch TV programme or Netflix?

I’m loving the new series of Derry Girls. What a cameo in that first episode from the ‘big man’ Liam Neeson. All the characters are great, but Kathy Kiera Clarke as Aunt Sarah and Tara Lynne O’Neill as Erin’s Ma are just brilliant.

Is Sunday still special?

It’s a special time to relax with family but we didn’t used to go to church on Sunday and at Easter had a family Easter egg hunt. I enjoy listening to Desert Island Discs as music is such a marvellous link to memories of times and places.

Do you have a favourite eatery or is it a takeaway?

As the days are getting warmer and longer, it’s all about the picnic. With farmers’ markets starting up again, and great local produce, you can dine well in the most remote, picturesque locations. If you walk there, you also have an excuse to add in some cakes.

How do you feel on Sunday night about Monday morning?

Sunday night is my list making night. I’m currently working with a fantastic team of musicians, choreographers and film-makers on this exciting project so I look forward to the working week. We’re also recruiting participants to help with the outdoor art. Having worked on outdoor events in urban settings for 20 years, I am finding working and living in the country both challenging and rewarding. The more you appreciate nature, the more you want to protect it.
