Film flashbacks at The Strand in Belfast

THE Strand Arts Centre have another eclectic selection of big screen revivals running alongside the usual crop new releases over the coming weeks.

Movies returning to the cinema for the first time in years include the multi-Oscar-winning One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest featuring an iconic turn by Jack Nicholson (March 1, 8 & 15), the original 1984 version of teen dance drama Footloose (Friday March 2, preceded by a live dance performance), Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman in Watergate scandal thriller All The President's Men (March 14, part of Imagine Belfast's Festival of Ideas & Politics 2018), a special CineCycle screening of kids adventure classic The Goonies (March 25, preceded by Sustrans guided cycle tour) and a 20th anniversary re-run of Terrence Malick's visually stunning war movie The Thin Red Line (March 22 & 29).

The Strand are also continuing their regular Silver Screenings series of films geared towards pensioners with the 1987 romantic comedy Moonstruck starring Cher and Nicolas Cage (February 25), comedy classic The Ladykillers (March 1, 4, 8 & 11) and Doris Day musical favourite Calamity Jane (March 15, 18, 22 & 29).

Kids classics are also well catered at with Strand Saturdays, their weekly 'minors club' followed by creative workshops (children £2, adults free): catch Disney animated classic Dumbo on March 17 followed by a juggling workshop and The Great Muppet Caper followed by an On Yer Bike! workshop on March 24.
